Another day, another Chardonnay! I’m busting out my best stemless glassware for a casual pour from Down Under, the 2025 Costco Wine Advent-ure Calendar‘s wine #14: Solo Reflections Chardonnay.

It’s well-chilled–and I’m ready to be well-chilled, too. Costco wine can help with that. No thinking, just drinking.

But is Solo Reflections a wine that likes what it sees when it looks in the mirror? Or does it need to be sent to the corner to think about what it did? Let’s pop that (composite) cork and find out!

The Label

From the producer: “This Australian Chardonnay is a delight with its fresh and elegant profile, featuring enticing notes of ripe pear. Its lively and crisp palate offers a light and refreshing experience.”

The Tasting

Hey, this Chard is all right! Citrusy aromas lead into round but vivid flavors of yellow apple, apricot, peach, and pear. Medium body and alcohol with medium-plus acidity. It finishes moderately dry with an agreeable pear-cider and pineapple tanginess. I don’t detect any oaky flavors–just some mild creaminess that adds body and complements its stone fruits very well.

I realize that Australia is trying to get away from its old habit of putting animals on wine labels. But if this Chardonnay was going to be packaged as a critter wine, I know the perfect critter: A Golden Retriever puppy.

Like a baby goldie, this wine is young, it’s way too eager to please, and it doesn’t do anything all that interesting or useful. But it’s a pretty yellow color! And it’s so super-friendly and earnest that you kinda just want to give it a pat on the head.
