Hi, wine friends! I have a new, free download to use for your wine tasting groups and holiday parties: A printable Wine Tasting Placemat!
The backstory: I was hosting a Texas wine tasting at The Wine Fairy house this week, and I invited a couple more people than usual. With a few dozen glasses on the table, things can get confusing fast. I realized that having paper placemats was going to be really helpful for me and for my guests to keep all the wines organized.
I searched online for a half-hour, but I couldn’t find any free downloads–or even a paid product–that met my needs for this tasting. (No thank you, cheesy bridal-party clip art and distracting Wine Folly ads everywhere.)
So, I assembled this quickie design in PhotoShop. It’s simple but versatile. It works great for wine parties, comparative tastings, and blind tasting practice, too! And now that I’ve road-tested it, it’s yours to download and enjoy.
This printable placemat can fit up to four wineglasses, even glasses with larger bowls. Add the theme (or occasion) at the top. Next to each glass, there is a space to write down the wine’s name/vintage, region, grape varieties, and three or four lines of notes. And of course, there is a spectrum of five pre-printed smileys to register your pleasure or displeasure with each wine that you try.
This placemat design is standard Legal-size format (8.5 inches x 14 inches). So it’s really convenient to print out as many as you need from a home or workplace printer. Or, you can order a stack from your favorite online or local print shop.
For my first batch, I opted for plain white paper. This was a very affordable option (I paid 35 cents per copy at the office supply store), and the uncoated paper was easy to write on with a regular pen or pencil. But if you want a less utilitarian look, you could jazz it up with parchment, glossy paper, or colored cardstock from a specialty store.
