Imagine this: You’re in a less-than-ideal wine shop in a new city and you don’t recognize any labels. You have $20 in your pocket. You’re meeting up with friends…and there’s someone who maybe doesn’t drink red? You have no idea what you’re having for dinner. What’s your move?
If you said “white Bordeaux,” then great minds think alike, wine pal. That’s exactly how I ended up with this bottle of convenience, the 2024 Château La Rose de Vitrac Bordeaux Blanc.

Pale yellow with aromas of lemon, green pineapple, light boxwood, gooseberry, and Makrut lime leaf. The light-bodied, high-acid style is sharp and barely ripe, but softened by an intense spring-blossom perfume on the nose and the back of the palate. The fruit flavors are balanced but not especially concentrated. It has a brief, citric finish with a light mineral texture.
There’s no blending data available for Château La Rose de Vitrac. But this young bottle has a pronounced floral character that I associate more with Muscadelle than the usual suspects of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there’s a dash of this rarer Bordeaux grape in the mix.
White Bordeaux is a reliable crowd-pleaser–especially at Millennial gatherings where the preference tilts toward dry, unoaked white wines. This bottle was simple, crisp, and fresh. It’s made in a “lean and green” style that’s ideal as an aperitif or with casual meals. Drink now.
